Fancy Linking for Non Premium Members

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 15, 2012, 12:00 AM

A very good Sunday morning to you all my fellow linkers!

I hope you all enjoy a nice and pleasant Sunday, but before you get down to that, I'd be really grateful if you'd go through this little entry as well, i.e. if you don't already know how to link in using html coding, which is what I've described below.

I'd recently submitted a picture to the link system and :iconechostar08: was generous enough to also leave a very appreciative comment on the picture to which I'd just normally reply with a thank you and let it be. However, she'd also added one little line to the comment about wishing that she could teach all the Non Premium Account members to link in that manner, which set me thinking, why not add a little tutorial of sorts on how to do that, so here I am, typing out this piece, which I hope will be of some use to you.  I know that some or maybe even most of you already know this, so please pardon me for iterating something you are already familiar with, but this is intended for those who do not know.

Now, this is a very simple process and won't take up much of your time (it's also described in the dA FAQ's, FAQ #81: How can I create links to other deviants, deviations, or websites? but i doubt many of you go through them carefully)

Starting off:

:bulletorange: The first step (as always) is to open up the comment section of your deviation for editing.

:bulletred: Now, type out the following code: < a href=" url of deviation "> Text/Title of Deviation </a> .

:bulletorange: Open the deviation which you want to link to. Copy it's URL and paste it between the double quotes (" "). Add the deviation title in the space where I've written Text/Title of Deviation.
For example I'll link the following deviation to this journal:
purr by Tyranide

:bulletred: Now after copying the URL and adding the Text in the respective fields, the code for the link to this deviation will look like this:
< a href="http ://tyranide.deviantart.com/art/purr-296164127?q=in%3Aphotography%20sort%3Atime&qo=70"> Purr </a>
I've added a space between the < and the a as well as between the colon (:) and the p in the http so as to prevent a link from forming.

In the actual link there should be no space between them, i.e. instead of starting like this: < a  it should be like this: <a

:bulletpurple: Once you remove all the spaces, the link should appear like this:   Purr . (:pointl: Click me. I'm clickable.)

To add the icon of the deviant who created this deviation, type the following :iconDeviant'sName:

:bulletblack: The end result of all this should be the following:

Purr by :icontyranide:

Thank you for your time, and i hope you found this post useful.

Okay so I got it to show the name of the link but not the picture.

it looks like this:
< a href=" [link] "> Excelerate page 1 </a >

(I added a space between the <a and a> so hopefully you can see it)

Heeey this might be SOOOO late, but just incase, to show the picture you need; ][ will replace these >< for this example.
to show an img, to have it link to something AND show an img you need

this: [a href="the link you want"][/a]

:bulletgreen: A direct image link is a link that usually ends with .png, .jpg, .gif, and so on.

==========
But in the journal the cat image was just telling you what deviation he was going to link to. If you want to link to someone's deviation you simply use their thumbnail code thats on the deviation already. The thumbnail code will both display the image and link back to their deviation.

Cheers!
